It’s been almost a decade since the smartwatch started shipping to its backers, but there’s still life in the old dog. The wearables are already compatible with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, as well as 64-bit Android devices that will arrive later.

As noted by Katherine Berry, who works on Wear OS and is a prominent member of what keeps the Pebble ecosystem alive, that Pebble’s latest update comes four years after the previous one. The latest update allowed many of the Pebble app’s features to run on independent servers. Fitbit, which shut down Pebble’s servers in 2018, two years after that.

Along with Pixel 7 compatibility, the latest update also improves the reliability of Caller ID on recent Android versions. Although the app is not available on the Google Play Store, is signed with official Pebble keys and retains integration, Berry noted.

At first glance, this may finally seem like the end of the line for Pebble in terms of official support. “Thanks to Google for providing us with one last update,” . However, as Ars Technica points out, it looks like a Pebble hackathon will be held next month. So if your Pebble’s e-ink screen and battery are still holding out, it might be useful for a while longer.
