Nintendo is said to have pushed the launch of its next-gen console, with reports from earlier this year claiming that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will launch in early 2025. Now, new details have emerged about Nintendo’s upcoming console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 may come with a redesigned Joy-Con controller that attaches magnetically to the handheld console. The information comes from a Spanish publication Vandalisticciting information obtained from accessory makers who have seen the Switch 2.

The Magnetic Joy-Cons will represent a change from the current design of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch OLED controllers, which attach to the console via a rail system. Thus, a new attachment system could mean that the current Joy-Cons may not be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the report says that existing Nintendo Switch Pro controllers will be supported by the new console.

The report also claims that the Nintendo Switch 2 will retain the hybrid console features of its predecessor, working as both a portable handheld and a stationary console for the TV in docked mode. The Switch 2 will also reportedly have a larger screen. The standard Nintendo Switch has a 6.2-inch screen, while the Switch OLED features a 7-inch screen. The Nintendo Switch 2 will likely be a more powerful console as well.
