Intel launched a new artificial intelligence (AI)-based personal computing platform for businesses called vPro on Tuesday at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024. The new enterprise-focused platform is a cloud-based system that uses AI to improve organizational workflows. The company claims the platform will offer better security, more IT tools for remote device management and repair, a wide range of AI features and higher stability. More than 100 notebooks, 2-in-1s, desktops and entry-level workstations from various brands will receive the Intel vPro platform this year.
The Intel vPro platform is built on the latest Intel Core Ultra processors with Arc GPUs and 14th generation Intel Core processors. Refreshing its enterprise portfolio with the new platform, the tech giant announced it is working with more than 100 software vendors, Windows 11 and Copilot teams to deliver new AI experiences for business-focused PCs. To provide the capability, the platform will use the device’s built-in CPU, GPU and NPU (neural processor). For PCs powered by 14th generation processors, its hybrid performance architecture will be used to maximize compute space to enable AI applications and multitasking.
Regarding the features and benefits of the new Intel vPro platform, the company said the devices will offer 47 percent better office application performance compared to a three-year-old PC. Security is also a big focus in the platform. Intel’s Threat Detection Technology will use the new NPU to improve anomaly detection performance. It will also be able to detect such cases while consuming less power than older devices. Additionally, a new engine will authenticate system firmware to add another layer of protection against cyber threats.
Remote diagnosis, management and troubleshooting will also be easy with the Intel vPro platform. A new feature called Device Discovery will allow cloud-based tools to quickly get the information they need to initiate appropriate actions on a computer. More tools have been added to help IT teams gain visibility into a fleet of devices to check for patch requirements and provide end-to-end device management.
Finally, stability is another focus area for Intel. The new platform helps IT organizations easily deploy tools and transition operating system generation without facing compatibility issues or server-based delays.
