Meta has unveiled a set of new features for Instagram Direct Messages (DMs) designed to facilitate seamless communication, self-expression and inbox management. The latest additions aim to improve the user experience by providing more flexibility and customization within the messaging platform.

One significant improvement is the introduction of an “Edit Messages” feature. Users now have the ability to edit sent messages within a 15-minute window. This can be done by pressing and holding the message, then selecting the ‘edit’ option from the menu, offering users a quick way to correct or modify their messages soon after sending.

Another notable feature is the ‘Pin Chats’ option for easy access. Users can now pin up to three group or individual chats to the top of their inbox, streamlining navigation and providing quick access to frequently used conversations. To pin a chat, users can either swipe left or touch and hold the chat, then select pin. This feature provides a convenient way to prioritize and organize important conversations.

Additionally, users now have control over their read receipts with the “Toggle Read Receipts” option. This feature allows users to decide whether to show read receipts for all chats or only specific ones. Users can adjust this setting in their account settings under “Messages and Story Replies”, providing a customized level of privacy.

Saving and using your favorite stickers has become more convenient with the ability to save them in DM. Users can simply press and hold a sticker to save it for quick access in future conversations. Additionally, users can reply to messages with a variety of media, including stickers, GIFs, videos, photos and voice messages, adding a level of personalization to their interactions.

To enhance the visual aspect of conversations, users can now customize chats with different themes. Whether planning an event or engaging in casual conversation, users can choose from themes like Love (soon to be animated), Lollipop, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and more. Changing the topic is as simple as tapping on the chat name, going to the topics section and selecting the topic you want.

In a statement, Meta expressed its commitment to continuously improve the messaging experience on Instagram, striving to maintain a delightful and personal platform for connecting users. The company hinted at more exciting features on the horizon, encouraging users to stay tuned for future updates.
